Hello and welcome to Year 4! I'm Miss Hollerer and I am delighted to be teaching Year 4 this year.

Year 4 is such an exciting part of Key Stage 2, full of opportunities to grow and learn. This year, we’ll be building on everything you’ve achieved so far, developing greater independence, and embracing new challenges with confidence and enthusiasm.

In our class, we’ll be diving into a wide range of subjects – from exploring the Ancient Egyptians, electricity, and volcanoes, to becoming confident readers, writers and mathematicians. Creativity and curiosity are at the heart of our learning, and we’ll enjoy plenty of hands-on activities, projects and experiences to help bring our lessons to life.

Most importantly, Year 4 is a time to grow not just academically, but also as kind, thoughtful members of our school community. We’ll work together, support one another and celebrate our achievements along the way.

I can’t wait to see all the fantastic things we will accomplish this year – it’s going to be a brilliant journey!

  •
  • On Thursday, we have PE.
  • Please ensure your child is wearing correct PE kit which consists of black joggers/leggings, a black jumper/hoodie and a plain white t-shirt and trainers.
  • On Monday, we have swimming.
  • Year 4 will have swimming lessons up until Christmas and then start lessons again in Year 5. It is essential that your child is sent to school with a swimming kit every Monday so that they do not miss their last few weeks of lessons for this academic year.

The children are required to take their reading books and yellow reading journals home and return them to school every day.

Every Thursday, we have a spelling test. The children's weekly spelling test scores will be recorded in their reading journals.

  •    In Year 4, the children should read their reading books daily, either independently or with an adult. Please encourage your child to do so!

Every Thursday, the children choose a book matched to their reading level from our school library.

  •    Ten spellings per week will be stuck into the children's reading record to practice at home and in school. These spellings will be tested every Thursday.
  •    Every week, the children will be set an assignment on Spelling Shed to support with their spelling practice.
  •    You can access Spelling Shed here: https://www.edshed.com/en-gb/login/school

It is important that the children use Times Table Rockstars regularly at home to improve their times table fluency.

You can access Times Tables Rockstars here: https://play.ttrockstars.com

The children's logins for Spelling Shed and TTRockstars are stuck into the cover of their yellow reading records.

Miss Hollerer will award prizes each week to the children with the most engagement.
