Hello and welcome to our Year 2 class page. My name is Miss Pearson-Maybank and I am thrilled to be teaching our Year 2 pupils!
We have lots of fun here learning new things, exploring new topics, building confidence, asking big questions and consolidating our overall knowledge of Key Stage 1.
In Year 2, we promote independence and prepare our pupils with the skills that they need when getting ready for the exciting step into Key Stage 2.
We follow the example set by Saint Catherine of Sienna, our class saint, by demonstrating our core virtues of love, kindness and humility, which we aim to spread beyond our classroom.
Together, we look forward to learning, growing and making wonderful memories!

PE
PE lessons take place every Thursday afternoon. Children are required to wear plain black jogging bottoms or shorts, a white t-shirt (with or without school logo) and a plain black hoodie/jumper. Trainers must also be worn. Earrings should not be worn.
Swimming
Swimming lessons will be held in Spring term only. Please ensure your child has appropriate swimming attire, such as a swimming costume or shorts, along with a towel and a swimming cap.
Phonics and Reading
Children in Year 2 will engage with daily phonics sessions and reading practise in school using the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds scheme of learning. Children are expected to do at least 20 minutes of daily reading at home, with the support of an adult. Reading books from school are sent home on a regular basis. Children also have the opportunity to choose from a wide selection of books from our new school library, which will be changed on a weekly basis, every Thursday. Please ensure that all school reading/library books are returned on time and are well looked after.
Maths
In Year 2, children are expected to practise and recall multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
Hit the Button is a very useful website which helps children to practise their fluency on areas of Maths such as times tables, number bonds and doubling. Year 2 children are encouraged to use these wonderful websites and apps regularly to secure their knowledge of number facts in preparation for Key Stage 2, always with the support and supervision of an adult.
Spelling
From the Spring term onwards, Year 2 children will engage in a weekly spelling test.
Please speak to a member of the Year 2 team if you have any queries.
