Welcome to Year 5

End of Year Expectations

Notice to Parents:

We have now completed our swimming sessions for the year in Year 5. This means the children will no longer need to bring a swimming kit to school. Instead, Year 5 will have two PE sessions a week, these are on a Thursday and a Friday so PE kits will be required for both of these days.

Our Summer Term Topics

English

Non - Fiction: Poetry

We are learning about figurative language through song lyrics and poetry. We are trying to recognise devices such as alliteration, metaphors, similes and personification and eventually, we will write our own poem using these features!

Fiction: How To Train Your Dragon

Our class text this term is Cressida Cowell's 'How To Train Your Dragon'. This book links to our history topics of Anglo Saxons and Vikings and we will eventually write instructions to train our own mythical creature as well as perhaps writing our own version of the story!

Maths - Geometry and Shape

RE - Life in the Risen Lord

Science - Forces

Topic - Anglo Saxons and Vikings

PE - Athletics - Thursday mornings. Volleyball - Friday afternoons

Music - Choir - once a week

   Guitar - once a week

Our PE lessons are on a Thursday morning and a Friday afternoon and as long as the weather is suitable, we will be outside in the playground. Please ensure your child had a full school PE kit, pumps and trainers.

Have a look at all our photos from our class trip to the National Space Centre in Leicester! We had such a fantastic day learning about rockets, astronauts and our solar system.

If any parents, or children, have any concerns, questions or worries; Miss Dobson operates an open-door policy and would be more than happy to speak to you whenever is suitable!
